Johann holds international certification from the Sivananda based (integral, remedial style) Ananda Kutir Yoga Centre in Cape Town, and has been teaching and studying yoga since 1990. He is based in Stellenbosch (near Cape Town), South Africa.
The Five Keys to Well-being applies the cornerstones of yoga practices and classic body-mind techniques in accessible-to-all presentations for non-yoga practitioners, yoga students and practitioners or teachers in the well-being industry. It promotes vital aspects of health care to enhance all fitness-, sports-, corporate- and yoga well-being programmes.
The Five Keys to Well-being stresses the necessity of the integration of body, mind and spirit
through use of simple stretching, mobility, breath, meditation and relaxation techniques.
"The system of yoga may greatly enhance the mental and physical well-being of any individual.
Yoga is a magnificent practical and spiritual tool that invigorates the body, provides mental clarity and inspire you to accept
self-responsibility for your life and health. This awakened power of self-realization leads to personal fulfilment and inner peace.
This is the true Spirit of Yoga that inspires me”.
“ ‘Die gees van yoga’ beskryf yoga as ‘n allesomvattende dissipline wat hoë vlakke van fisiese- en geestelike welvaart kan meebring deur middel van universiële, holistiese beginsels van gesondheid”.
Johann teaches a personal interpretation of the universal values of traditional yogic metaphysics and physical practices as a means to achieve well-being and self-realization. These aspects of yoga are brought into focus and assimilated into the global modern-day culture. Integrated yoga combines well with all aspects of holistic living, and presents yoga "as a gateway to a healthy lifestyle that can be achieved by any individual. Modern Yoga has mutated into many variations and hybrids. The Western way of individualized teaching has led to personal styles developing from yoga's traditional roots, making it possible to do yoga or use its principles of well-being to achieve a balance of material and spiritual values".
Johann's yoga is of a soft, flowing nature, using the stretches and twists of yoga to deeply massage the body, and soothe the mind with gentle, powerful breathing, rejuvenating both. "Yoga is not only about the difficult stuff, the intricate and strong poses, but about finding ways for it to serve the health of the individual practitioner. Yoga can be made accessible and challenging to all ages and body types, regardless of ability or disability, prior yoga experience, or a specific interest or lack of interest in spiritual matters".
The beginner is shown how to start a practice; the stronger student is encouraged to work deeper and with more self-awareness. All students are encouraged to keep an open and inquisitive mind in regards to spirituality.
Johann's passion for music, books, nature and a quest for well-being has been influenced as much by yoga as his philosophy and lifestyle resonates with yoga. He also works as a music- and events producer, and has produced numerous productions and recordings of poetry, classical-, blues- and rock music and composes, performs and records his own music. His 'In the Spirit of Yoga' Yoga promotes a vision of a world that transcends boundaries between the different genres and cultures of business and the healing and creative arts.
