Nature is the source of all life

Streching on the beach at Betty's Bay

‘When drinking water, remember the source’ - Chinese proverb

We are biological creatures. Humankind is made up of living sells that feed on the energy sources of nature. Despite our clever technological inventions, and our apparent disregard of our planet, our very existence depends on the health of our natural environment. Nature is the very source of our existence, and when we recognise nature as the most vital root of all life we can begin to acknowledge the importance or ecosystems and environmentalism.

Establishing a connection with nature can heal the biological body and the spirit of our being, and in return, foster a protective attitude towards Earth.

Yoga teaches us to appreciate the importance of living in harmony with nature. All yoga is based on principles of purity; breathing clean air properly, nourishing the body with wholesome food, and providing the body and mind with tranquil, natural surroundings. It encourages a sensitive attitude towards all life around us. Through awareness we can learn to see the wonder of our creation, and begin to understand that we are responsible for the destruction, or preservation, of the miraculous systems of life on earth. Through the practice of yoga we can start to appreciate the total extend to which our lives are linked to the resources of the natural world. Our social and mental well-being depends as much on the health of our own physical bodies as it does on the state of nature, our habitat.

All the nourishment to sustain human life is derived from nature. All our experience of life is through our body and mind. Remembering, acknowledging and honouring nature as the roots of life itself forms the beginning of true self-respect, and respect of all life. When start to understand this, we are humbled, and can begin to truly understand that food comes from the land, that it is grown by someone’s labour, in the sun and soil, soaking up life force or prana, in order to feed our own life force, and to ultimately feed our soul. Realising that our lives truly depends completely on our environment, our connection with the much larger universe or one God, or source where all life comes from is indeed to realise the wonder of creation.
